A student admitted to the university either conditionally or provisionally is ineligible to receive assistance from any federal student aid programs under most circumstances.

The student may apply for commercial loan financing from a private lender based on his or her credit worthiness. Once a student is regularized, the student may then be considered for federal assistance at the beginning of the subsequent semester if a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is on file.

Provisional Admits
A student admitted to the university provisionally is ineligible to receive assistance from any federal student aid program. The student may apply for commercial loan financing from a private lender based on his or her credit worthiness. Once a student is regularized, the student may then be considered for federal assistance at the beginning of the subsequent semester if a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is on file.

Conditional Admits
A student admitted to the university conditionally is ineligible to receive assistance from any federal student aid program under most circumstances. The student may apply for commercial loan financing from a private lender based on his or her credit worthiness. Once a student is regularized, the student may then be considered for federal assistance if a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is on file.

Conditional Admits (completing undergraduate prerequisites) - The Office of Student Financial Assistance will process requests from academic departments for students admitted conditionally solely to complete undergraduate prerequisites required for enrollment in a graduate or professional program. Only classes identified as required prerequisites can be considered for federal assistance. Students may not be registered concurrently for prerequisites and graduate coursework required for completion of their graduate or professional degree program. Students may be considered for federal assistance at the fifth-year level. Undergraduate annual and aggregate loan limits would apply.

Department Responsibilities - The department would need to submit for each term a separate letter/form* per student on department letterhead signed by the dean or designated representative that certifies the following:

  • The student has been admitted conditionally solely to complete undergraduate prerequisites for enrollment in a graduate program.
  • The student has met all other requirements for admission into their graduate program.
  • The student’s courses are part of an eligible program otherwise offered by the school.
  • The student will not be allowed to concurrently register for graduate courses that are required for completion of their graduate or professional program.
  • Additionally the letter should list the course number, title and number of credit hours of each required prerequisite course the department is approving.
* This letter becomes part of the student's file as documentation used by the Office of Student Financial Assistance to determine federal student aid eligibility.
